Privacy at Giftwell.

Your account and lists
Giftwell stores account details and the gift lists you choose to save, including gift names, selected offers, bought status, an optional postcode, budget and delivery date. These details support your list, searches and delivery comparisons. Lists are private to your session or account until you choose to share them.
Sharing lists and reserving gifts
Sharing is optional. Anyone with an active sharing link can see the list title, occasion, gift names, quantities, size or colour notes, product links, retailer offers and any gift deadline. Your account details, postcode, budget and personal bought tracking are not included. Only share gift details you are happy for recipients of the link to read. You can disable sharing or replace the link from the list.
Signed-in gift buyers can see remaining availability and reserve gifts. The list owner and signed-out visitors do not receive reservation details, purchase status or buyer identities. Other buyers see availability and their own reservations, without other buyers’ names or account details. These controls keep gifts a surprise during normal use; an owner could deliberately use a different account to view buyer availability.
A reservation stores its quantity, purchase status and a copy of the gift details for the buyer. Buyers can manage these in Gifts I’m buying, even if sharing stops or the original gift is removed. This saved copy remains until the buyer releases the reservation or deletes their account. We do not send reservation notifications to the list owner. Reservations do not reserve retailer stock or confirm a retailer purchase.
Images stay on your device
When you upload a list image, the app reads its text in your browser. The image is not sent to Giftwell. The text you review and confirm becomes part of your saved list. The browser downloads text-recognition software and language files to perform this work.
Searches and wishlist links
Searching sends the product details needed for discovery to our search provider. The app reads accessible product or wishlist pages to retrieve the information you request. Avoid entering personal information in gift titles. We don’t send your password to shops, and we don’t access private shopping accounts.
Service providers
The app is hosted on Vercel. Connected account and list services use Convex. Search discovery, when available, uses Brave Search. Product details and external images may load from the retailers or sources shown with the offers. Those services receive the technical information needed to respond to requests.
Checking product matches
When enhanced matching is available, Giftwell sends the requested product title and variant preferences, together with public retailer product titles and condition details, through OpenRouter to TypeSafe’s Jev service. This helps check whether an offer is for the requested product, colour, size or condition. It does not generate prices or delivery dates.
These matching requests do not intentionally include your account name, email address, postcode or list name. Product titles can still contain information you type, so please keep personal or sensitive details out of them. Uploaded list images stay on your device. Giftwell does not include the matching request text in its application logs.
Browser storage
Essential browser storage keeps you signed in and connects your browser to your saved lists. Real gift lists, including guest lists, are stored securely by the account service. The fictional example lists are saved only in your browser. Anyone using the same browser profile may be able to access its guest lists. Sign out of your account on a shared device.
Deleting information
You can permanently delete individual lists from My lists or a list page. Signed-in users can delete their account and lists from Account. Delete guest lists in the app before clearing your browser storage: clearing storage alone can remove your access without deleting lists held by the service. Clearing this site’s browser storage removes locally saved example lists. Provider backups may retain deleted information temporarily under their retention policies.
Deleting your account releases your unpurchased reservations. Quantities you marked bought remain unavailable without your account identity, to prevent duplicate gifts; those records are removed when the list is deleted. Deleting a shared list revokes its link but cannot remove gift details that a buyer has already saved or seen.
Shopping and external sites
Buying happens on the retailer’s website, subject to that retailer’s privacy and sales terms. Giftwell doesn’t receive your payment details. Links labelled “Ad · We earn commission” use Awin affiliate tracking when you choose to follow them. They include Giftwell’s publisher identifier, the shop’s programme identifier and the product URL. We do not add your account details, list name, sharing token or postcode.
Awin and the retailer receive technical information about your visit. We pass your affiliate cookie choice to Awin; it defaults to no consent until you allow tracking. Your preference is stored on this device for six months and can be changed through Cookie choices in the footer when affiliate links are enabled. The retailer’s own cookie settings apply on its site. Beta status
Giftwell is currently a limited beta. This page describes the information used by its available features and will be updated as those features change. You can manage or delete your lists in the app. Please avoid storing sensitive information or children’s personal details in gift lists.
